RESEARCH IN ASIAN ARCHITECTURE

The project is research driven that requires us to investigate and discuss significant issues to generate a critical understanding of tradition, modernity and globalization in the Asian architectural contexts. These issues are discussed in lectures to facilitate students’ group discussion in class. We are required to present our findings in the form of a research poster and seminar presentation.​

We are required to propose a topic suitable to be investigated. Topic chosen will be conducted with thorough analysis to support the research title. All findings be compiled properly in an visual A1 size research poster with proper referencing.
Learning Objectives:

Describe the historical development of vernacular architecture in the Asian region that responded to the indigenous contexts.

Interpret significant issues in relation to the development of contemporary Asian architecture based on themes of tradition, modernity and globalization.

In this project, we need to form a group of 6-7. The group needs to select ONE specific research area below which to investigate through extensive literature review.
-Heritage and conservation
-Vernacular & traditional architecture
-Modernity in Asian architecture
-Contextual Architecture
Once the research area is confirmed, we need to conduct extensive literature reviews, to identify the specific topic/ issues/significance of study and then define specific scope of study. For my group, we have chosen ' Vernacular and traditional architecture' as our specific scope of study.
We are required to generate a good research title that reflects the research intention.

FINAL OUTCOME
REFLECTION
This project allowed me to gain more knowledge of the vernacular and traditional architecture about the house of DEMANG ABDUL GHANI.
Besides that this assignment has made me more critical in my designs where i try to include considerations of cultural context in my future design projects.
I learned that the importance of teamwork as my group members work together efficiently with great communication without the unity of everyone, we would not be able to complete our work in time.

contextual architecture study
The Contextual Architecture Study project requires students to analyse how the selected architectural design responded to its contexts. Findings from the study is presented in the form of A2 presentation visual.

Students are required to select a building in Asia to investigate through observation and readings on contemporary Contextual Architecture practices and issues in Asia.

FINAL OUTCOME
REFLECTION
For this assignment, I have chosen ' Features related to the form of building" as my part of study.
In this project, I have gained a lot of knowledge about our chosen building which is Rumah Demang Abdul Ghani Gallery which is Melaka traditional house. I did the analysis of the features that related to the form the house and I have found that this building is unique in the design form.
Besides, I learned how to manage my time well and managed to done all my works on time.
Lastly,teamwork is really important to done all the works on time. I would like to thanks all my group members who helped me to solve my problems together.
